This is a Co-financed Project (Edictal CAPES/Embrapa n° 15/2014), conducted with the partnership between the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel) - Capão do Leão Campus, the leader institution, and Embrapa Trigo, the partner. Its main objective is the training of human resources (master, doctorate, and postdoctorate) to act on the cereal science and technological area, through the wheat technological quality evaluation as for structural, functional and technological characteristics, promoting k ... Embrapa has built a highly conducive environment for the use of strategic and competitive intelligence to support action planning and scheduling and to provide important information to the different agents in the supply chains to which it relates. This is expressed in Embrapa's Agropensa (Strategic Intelligence System) dedicated to producing and disseminating knowledge and information in support of the formulation of research, development and innovation strategies for the corporation and its par Status: Completed Start date: 01/06/2017 |
The Brazilian fruit farmer needs new product options which have a commercial appeal in order to maintain themselves in the market. Blueberries and blackberries are a part of these options, they are increasingly awakening the interest of producers due to their nutraceutic properties and usage possibilities. These species can present great production in small areas. Temperate Climate Embrapa has launched the Tupy blackberry cultivar, which is the most used but has thorny stems, hindering the plant Status: Completed Start date: 01/09/2010 |
Due to the crescent quest for renewable energy sources, the biodiesel production from renewable sources has created exceeding amounts of glycerol as a biodiesel sub-product. Currently, the most important consumer markets for glycerol are the industries of food, drinks, cosmetics, paper, ink, lubricants and resin. Thusly, studies that aim to find new uses, and open new consumer markets for glycerol have been strongly stimulated, and have been increasingly challenging scientists of practically all Status: Completed Start date: 01/09/2010 |
raditional breeding has generated significant genetic gain over time. However, this strategy falls short of yielding information on the biological processes involved. Additionally, there are great difficulties for the genetic improvement of characteristics which are measured solely in one gender and/or late in the life span of the animal. With the development of DNA chips it became possible maximizing genetic gain by reducing the generation interval and increasing the intensity of selection. This project proposes to develop selected pure lineages of maternal traits for high reproduction performance, weight gain, longevity and functional structure: selected pure lineages of terminal paternal traits for high performance, weight gain, food conversion and meat quality; and to define usage strategies to optimize genetic material (crossbreeding to form matrices and slaughter animals) with this material's cost reduction to producers. The strategy is to develop technical cooperation contrac Status: Completed Start date: 01/09/2010 |
The recent expansion of sugarcane's culture by the mid-southern states of Brazil (Paraná, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais - except the north, and Goiás), has been mostly happening on areas where degraded grasslands occur, characterized by eroded soils which are poor in nutrients, under distinct hydric regimes in regions of traditional sugarcane production. The incorporation of these flat topography areas enables mechanized harvesting and a more intensive soil use, with the eliminatio ... Status: Completed Start date: 01/09/2010 |
As Brazil increases its production of biodiesel, so does the production of glycerin, a by-product with a high energy value. At the same time, corn, the main energy component in concentrated feeds, in addition to being the ingredient that most increases feed costs, tends to become less available in the market due to its use in the production of alcohol in Europe and the United States. Glycerol, the main component of glycerin, has already been used in some countries, mixed with concentrate for lac Status: Completed Start date: 01/11/2010 |
The adoption of agro-forest systems (SAFs) which are based in (agro) ecological practices has great potential for generating social, economic and environmental benefits, above all to family farmers. Thus, it was implanted, in the county of Tomé-Açu, Pará, SAFs composed by annual and perennial species, combined with Palm Oil Trees (Elaeis guineensis), in three family estates. In each one of them, the SAFs were installed after the area's preparation without the use of fires, based in the principle ... Status: Completed Start date: 01/08/2010 |
There has been increased interest in the use of techniques to collect and store rainwater in the last few decades, with funding from national and international bodies; however, the general performance of these activities at farmer level is lower than expected, and that relates to the lack of knowledge of the existence and importance of techniques to cope with semiarid conditions.
