Major Areas of Expertise: Postharvest physiology and technology of tropical and subtropical fruits and vegetables, including post-harvest quality maintenance and real-time quality monitoring techniques, mainly near infrared spectroscopy and digital imaging. In postharvest technology, the main goal is to induce post-harvest resistance through physical stresses such as pulsed light, ultraviolet radiation, plasma, ultrasound and radio frequency. Participation in research projects as responsible for the chromatographic analysis of greenhouse gases in melon production. Research and Extension Activities: The focus of the research is the development of post-harvest technologies (harvesting point, post-harvest treatments, packaging system, modified atmosphere, refrigerated storage, shelf life, etc.), as well as studying and developing methods to monitor postharvest quality using non-destructive techniques. His research is funded by Embrapa, Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Banco do Nordeste do Brasil, Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes - mainly fellowships for postgraduate students), and other agencies. As extension activities, he participates in the master's and doctoral programs of two Brazilian universities, as well as Embrapa programs for training of producers, such as the international cashew course, which trains producers from Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa or Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America.
