Antônio do Nascimento Ferreira Rosa, born in Patos de Minas, MG, is an Agricultural Engineer (1974) and Master in Animal Science (1977) from the Federal University of Viçosa, MG; D. Sc. in Biological Sciences - Genetics from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo-USP (1999). Attended courses in Administration, Training and Team Coordination at USP, in 1996, and the Advanced Management Program at the Amana-Key Center, in Cotia, SP, in 2019. Researcher at Embrapa since March 1975, he joined the team that consolidated the National Beef Cattle Research Center (Embrapa Gado de Corte), inaugurated on April, 1977, in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso. As researcher at this Embrapa Unit, he led the establishment of the first agreement between the Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association -ABCZ and Embrapa, at the state level, in 1979. This work enabled the expansion of this cooperation to a national level, in 1982, involving the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), Embrapa and ABCZ, for which 128 editions of the National Sires Summaries of the Zebu Breeds were produced, since 1984. He held various positions during this period, including: Executive Secretary of the Local Publications Committee (5/82 to 5/84), Coordinator of the Animal Breeding, Reproduction and Management Area (4/84 to 6/86) and the MAPA Beef Cattle Technical Commission (7/87 to 6/89). He participated in the establishment of the National Zootechnical Archive, having been its first manager, as well as in the revision of the rules of the Progeny Test and Genealogical Registry Service (MAPA Ordinances numbers 33 (02/10/1987), 45 (10/1/1987) and 47 (15/10/1987)), as support for the national genetic evaluation program. Creator of the Young Bulls Genetic Evaluation Program - ATJ, he transferred, soon after, to Embrapa Pantanal, in Corumbá, MS, where he provided services from 1991 to 1995. During this period, he evaluated adaptive processes of Nellore bulls transferred from Planalto to the Pantanal, having also exercised the position of Coordinator of the Animal Production Area. After completing his doctorate course (1995-1998), he was Head of Research and Development (3/1999 to 4/2000) and General Head of Embrapa Pantanal (09/1999 to 4/2000). Returning to Embrapa Gado de Corte, he served as Deputy Head of Administration at the Unit (2001), then returning to compose the animal breeding team, having also participated in the Internal Technical Committee of the Unit from 2009 to 2015. As part of the BifeQuali Research Network, he led research project on molecular markers for meat tenderness and feed efficiency in Nellore breed (2007 to 2012). He was leader of the Technology Transfer Project of the Embrapa Geneplus Program, also composing its technical team. Since November 2020, he has held the position of General Head of Embrapa Gado de Corte. He is a titular member of the Sectorial Chamber of Beef Cattle (MAPA) and of the National Beef Cattle Commission of the National Confederation of Agriculture (CNA). Author of more than three hundred technical-scientific documents, book chapters, expanded abstracts and technical dissemination articles, he gave lectures, classes and seminars in all regions of the country as well as abroad. Among the awards and honors received, the following stand out: Best Beef Cattle Animal Breeding Program, by the Brazilian Society of Animal Science, in 1988; Award for Excellence Embrapas Individual Outstanding, in 2008; Excellence in Genetics, by the Brazilian Society for Animal Breeding, in 2013; Commendation of Merit ABCZ - ExpoGenetica 2018 - Technical Category, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Zebu Animal Breeding Program and Diploma of the Guaicurus Honorary Order of Merit, offered by the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul State, in 2023, in commemoration of the Embrapas 50th anniversary.
